Hurry up.

This is essentially the message of the union of foresters of the South-West and the regional association for the defense of forests against fire (DFCI) who are asking the State for resources.

“A few months before the start of the forest fire season, and despite multiple reminders, no response has reached us from the State, they indicate in a joint press release on Tuesday.

However, there is an urgent need to act if we want to prevent the disaster of 2022 from happening again”.

"Developing our model"

After the giant fires in the summer of 2022, which destroyed 30,000 hectares of forests in Gironde, the organizations made proposals to the State and are worried about not having a return.

"If for nearly seventy years, our prevention system, in addition to the active fight led by firefighters, has been working, the change of context forces us to evolve our model so that it continues to be effective" , points out the press release.

The organizations' requests concern, for example, more development of the forest massif (tracks, water points, etc.), the strengthening of teams alongside DFCI volunteers, better consideration of the risk of forest fires in the town planning documents, application of legal obligations for clearing and adaptation of silvicultural practices.
