Mimura of Aomori Prefecture, who serves as the chairman of the governors' associations of six prefectures in Tohoku and Hokkaido, in response to the record number of chickens and other animals that have been disposed of due to bird flu this season, exceeding 11 million. The governor visited the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and requested financial support for poultry farmers.

Since the outbreak of bird flu this season was confirmed in Hokkaido and Okayama prefectures on October 28 last year, the number of chickens and other animals that have been disposed of has already exceeded 11 million, a record high.

In response, Governor Mimura of Aomori Prefecture, who serves as the chairman of the Hokkaido Tohoku Governors' Association, visited the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and handed Parliamentary Vice-Minister Hideho Tsunoda a written request for financial support for poultry farmers.

Regarding the current situation in Hokkaido and Tohoku, the request said, ``The number of slaughtered birds has reached about 3.5 million, accounting for 30% of the total nationwide, and it is a cause for concern for the regional economy aiming to recover from the corona disaster. ”.

In addition, we are asking the national government to support the cost of repairing facilities to prevent the spread of avian influenza, and to bear the full cost of farm disinfection carried out by prefectures.

Regarding the request, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Tsunoda responded, "We will continue to respond with a sense of crisis, and we would like to work closely with the national and prefectural governments to ensure a stable supply of eggs and chicken."

After the request, Governor Mimura of Aomori Prefecture told reporters, "The supply of eggs has decreased, and the impact on consumers is significant. We have confirmed that we will continue to exchange information."
