During the coldest season of the year, ``Kan noridaki'' was held in Kyoto to make the traditional ``glue'' used for repairing hanging scrolls and scrolls.

At a long-established mounting store in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City, every year during the cold season, there are few bacteria in the well water, so ``Kannushi-daki'' is held at this time.

In the work, well water is added to the starch powder taken from wheat flour, and it is cooked in a pot with a diameter of about 45 centimeters.

Then, continue mixing for about 40 minutes while adjusting the heat, and when it becomes sticky, transfer it to another pot.

After that, it will be left to rest for about 10 years in an underground storage room where the temperature and humidity are kept constant.

The finished glue is used as a lining for Japanese paper when making or repairing hanging scrolls and scrolls.

By letting it sit for a long time, the adhesive strength is not too strong and the finish is soft.

Mr. Naotaka Usami, a craftsman of "Usami Shokakudo", said, "It's a cold season, but it gets hot when I'm working. I'm cooking with my heart so that 10 years from now, it will be good." I was.

At this mounting store, about 40 kilograms of seaweed will be cooked on the 23rd and 24th.
