The 11th guest is Seol Chae-hyeon, a veterinarian who is called 'Korea's No. 1 water trainer'.

Being able to be called a 'new modifier' that people have never had before is a medal that only those who have pioneered their own path can obtain.

As a veterinarian in charge of animal health, as well as a trainer who reads animals' minds and corrects their behavior, Seol 'Sureiner' is trusted by many.

Let's guess his growth keyword after successfully winning the two rabbits!

There is no 'magic' in Gaegwacheonseon

Anyone who knows knows?

As a human who raises a dog called 'Jude Law', I have a feeling that today's conversation will not end quickly.

'Jude Law', who is not separated from his family even for an hour a week, can you understand the dog's uneasiness even though he is with his family?

“Why are we anxious when taking a test?

Due to Corona, it is said that separation anxiety has become a big issue in animal behavior associations around the world.

Not only 'Jude Law', but there are many dogs who are anxious even though they are with their companions all day.

"Previously, when guardians go out at this time, they come in at this time, I knew this by smell. I was not anxious because I could predict that the smell of the guardians at home would decrease when I went to work, and when it decreased to some extent, the guardians would return, but now I am at home Now that I'm on duty, I can't predict when my guardian will leave or come back."

And then I asked

"Who do you think sees the world the most similarly to how dogs see it? It's one of those things that has been scientifically proven to some extent, and it's people with autism."

“Thanks to the drama <The Strange Lawyer Woo Young-woo>, which became a hot topic last year, it became a little easier to explain. Woo Young-woo’s character wears headphones when walking on the street. Sudden physical contact is equally difficult for puppies. When we leave the door, we don't know where we are going and don't come out. Even when there is a sound outside, most of us know why it is making this sound. But dogs have never experienced it, and they hear a sound they don't know what it is and they hear a threat. It's full of stimuli that you don't know whether or not. The society you live in. Everything is a stress factor."

Because of this, sometimes they say that there are times when you have to be a 'fact bomber' even for a companion who cares and loves his dog too much.

It's when you don't understand why your dog behaves the way it does, and you just expect an outward change in behavior.

"It's hard when many guardians think they'll improve quickly. An easy example is bringing a child who can't even add and subtract yet and asking them to solve calculus, but it takes a lot of time to change the dog's emotions, not machines. Usually it's 3 months if it's short, 6 months if it's long. Serious kids make a plan for about a year and tell them to go step by step. It looks like it can be fixed easily like magic in broadcast programs. So, in fact, how do we change the perception of this part? I have a lot of thoughts about what to do."

Dogs have emotions, and when emotions change, behavior changes.

Determination is like a knife

If you are a dog lover, what kind of things have you done to read the mind of this person who is going through a period of stormy anger?

"I went to my nephew's house a lot on purpose. It's not academically established, but you have to know about your partner. Raising a dog is like dating. I've been dating my wife for 11 years, and we fought like crazy for half a year. While fighting, I don't know why we were dating. So let's find out, puppies' emotional age is similar to that of a 30-month-old child. The energy is constant, and they have basic emotions that express both likes and dislikes. I live 15 to 20 years at the emotional age of a dog. When it comes to adult dogs, there are times when I think of them as grown up and treat them like people, but I often say, 'Dogs are dogs.' If you treat dogs like people, it's hard to be happy together."

Was it that his thirst was not quenched despite such efforts?

After achieving my dream of becoming a veterinarian, I learned about animal ethology.

“The first time I encountered animal ethology was because of my wife’s pet dog named Bubble. Until then, there was no concept of ethology in Korea. In the US and Europe, psychiatric medications have been prescribed for dogs in difficulty for quite some time. So, I sent an e-mail directly to professors at American universities. Wait a minute. Even said, "I want to learn from the professors and see them treat them. Among them, the University of Minnesota in the US contacted me, so I went to the training."

She found something in common with the intellectuals she had met.

The sincerity of what you are doing, and the effort to voluntarily go further on the spot even if no one told you to.

But why did she go beyond being a companion animal behavior expert and even acquire a trainer qualification from the US KPA (Dog Trainer Course)?

“I was going to return home after training in animal ethology, but the professor in charge said, ‘Are there trainers in Korea who teach through praise?

Listening up to this point, I think I came to where I am today without any obstacles, like running on a highway.

However, it is said that there was opposition from the surroundings.

Every time that happens, the rebellious temperament that wants to do more of what you are told not to do raises its head.

“My parents were very opposed to becoming a veterinarian or a trainer. I initially failed in the veterinary department in the college exam and applied to KAIST, but in the car on the way back from OT, I received a call saying that I had been accepted into the veterinary department. KAIST University When I said, “Come~,” people around me said, “But the veterinary department didn’t respond that far, and the tuition was expensive, so they objected. That’s why I went to school even more tenaciously. I worked part-time tutoring throughout college and never went on an overseas trip until I was 29 years old.”

"Even after graduating from college, you can just go to the hospital and work, and my mother cried out loud, asking why you want to study animal ethology again. So, one of the expressions I introduce myself now is 'a person who succeeded by not listening to my parents at the decisive moment'."

What is essential at the moment of choice is that you have to be able to answer the question yourself, what kind of me you want to be.

Isn't it because the person who can later score the answer as the correct answer is also 'himself' after all.

there is no perfect understanding

In the era of 10 million companions, common sense is well known through various platforms including various social media.

Are you confident that you have mastered canine physiognomy?

I want to ask you to be wary of hasty judgments.

“If you express your anxiety, it becomes a bad dog, and if you can’t express it, it becomes a good dog. The reason why animals behave like that differs depending on the breed, and even within the same species, it depends on heredity and environment. It also differs depending on the situation. So, animals It's really hard to read people's minds, and I don't think you can fully read them."

"A typical stress signal among calming signals is 'lip licking (licking around one's mouth).' That's when the '5 Second Rule' comes into play. When you touch a puppy, take your hand away every 5 seconds. At that time, if the puppy puts its nose or head in your hand, it means to ask for more. To know it, it is helpful to focus on the calming signal and practice reading the context with the '5 Second Rule'."

Even the information that experts have studied and analyzed about dogs can be interpreted differently depending on the situation.

"It is important to develop leadership in order to become a respected guardian for your dog. The first thing is to give a lot of praise. As a joke, many puppies think their name is 'No.' It's okay!' After a lot of compliments, if you say 'no' once, the effect of following the guardian will be greater. The second is to get rid of free things. In the US, NILIF ('Nothing in Life Is Free') In Korean, 'nothing comes for free', but when you do something, you get what you want. Dogs learn that the person they need the most is a guardian, and it creates a feeling similar to respect."

According to this 'contra-freeloading theory', dogs feel more secure eating after doing something than eating easily without doing anything.

It's a fun experience that even dogs experience achievement.

“Guardians say they want to ask their dogs if they are happy, but am I always sick? I want to ask. They hide it. There are many cases where people are abandoned and even euthanized due to problems, but it could be because the cause of the behavior problem is sick. The more the cause of the behavior problem is properly identified and improved, the less euthanasia.”

In fact, I observed a dog that showed severe aggression and said it was because of epilepsy symptoms.

It is important to understand that you cannot fully understand your dog's state of mind or body and do your best to take care of it.

Suddenly, I wonder if there is another heart that makes human beings grow fundamentally as much as a heart that cherishes life regardless of its importance.

do we love

“I think the word guardian has a strong power. When we say guardians, it means that we have to protect our companion dogs, but it also means that we have a duty to protect them from harming other non-companions. Above all, if you say owner, you are treated as an object that owns a companion dog. I think that perception creates a wrong companion culture in which puppies are easily bought and thrown away."

The Animal Protection Act, which was enacted with the purpose of 'contributing to the cultivation of people's sentiments such as respect for life by protecting the life and safety of animals', is ironically becoming an obstacle to protecting companion dogs.

In our country's civil law, 'animals are defined as 'things or property owned by humans'.

"It's like hell when you go to an illegal breeding ground. But you can't take the puppies out there. It's the owner's property, so you can't take them out without the owner's permission. I rescued a child called the world from the intestines and have been with it until now. With the persuasion of the district office staff and people around me, the owner was able to give up ownership and bring it back. So I think that animals should be given a third status. . Not a person or thing, but a third status."
