• An association has just released a film which it likes to call “The Alsatian Lord of the Rings”.

  • Why ?

Because all those who participated in the feature film project of "fantastic medieval" were fans of the work of Tolkien and the films of Peter Jackson.

  • The project lasted ten years and involved nearly 500 people, being filmed throughout Alsace.

A cult trilogy, a series and now… an Alsatian version!

The Lord of the Rings

definitely does not stop seducing and influencing entire generations.

The twenty members of the “Trustwonder” association can testify to this.

For about ten years, they worked on the development of the film

Edahlion, the orphan kingdom

.

A two-hour "fantastic medieval" feature film that owes a lot to the adventures of Frodo Baggins...

“That was our main inspiration,” confirms the director of this 100% voluntary film, Michel C. Jacky.

Before quickly qualifying: “Be careful, we don’t want to compare ourselves at all.

Or all things considered, because we didn't really have the same budget!

“ Far from it since the amateurs evoke “15,000 euros from our pockets and thanks to crowdfunding campaigns” when Peter Jackson relied on hundreds of millions of dollars.

But the passion and the general atmosphere are the same.

To transmit them to the spectators, the Alsatians had to redouble their efforts.

For a little over a decade.

"We started pre-production in 2012 with my best friend, Jonathan Ott", rewinds the native of Hunspach (Bas-Rhin), 33 years old.

“Until then, we were doing short films each on our own and we decided to start together.

By first working on the script, the material, looking for places to shoot, etc.

Vast construction site, just a bit facilitated by the abundance of fortresses, or their ruins, in the region.

“We were able to go to the castle of Lichtenberg, to that of Haut-Barr in Saverne, to the ramparts of Wissembourg.

We really shot in the four corners of Alsace, even in the alleys of Ribeauvillé or Châtenois where we had to cover with straw because there was too much bitumen", explains the director, delighted with all these adventures, "a real life experience ".

500 participants, including extras

Human too, because the encounters were numerous.

Dressmakers to make certain costumes, cameramen, actors, etc.

In total, “500 people, including extras” participated in the project.

With castings for the main roles, including the hero Edahlion, played by Korantin Bahezre de Lanlay.

He's not a professional at all either.

“But he had a big advantage, he did a lot of medieval fights, that helped us,” smiles Michel C. Jacky, who comes out of nearly four years of postproduction.

The time to add some special effects "because it takes time" and to finalize the feature film.

This was previewed at the end of November in Haguenau “for the people who had helped us”.

Screenings will multiply in the coming weeks, in Strasbourg (January 24), Obernai (28), Wissembourg (31) and even in Germany at the end of February.

Each time, the production association Trustwonder rents the room since it has no distributor.

"But if someone is interested, it would obviously make us very happy," hopes the producer without having too many illusions.

“We did all this for our pleasure and I hope it will encourage other people to get started.

We started with three times nothing and it was a great adventure.

Which could even have sequels.

“Why not make a small series, but in shorter formats!
