Beyoncé has performed for the first time in more than four years.

The American pop star performed in front of selected guests on Saturday evening at the newly opened luxury hotel "Atlantis The Royal" in Dubai.

The 41-year-old team had invited to a weekend "where your dreams become your destiny".

The music magazine Pitchfork quoted from the invitation that it would be a "once-in-a-lifetime performance".

According to the Bloomberg news agency, Beyoncé is said to have received a fee of 24 million dollars.

The organizer asked concert-goers to place their cell phones in specially designed, lockable pockets to prevent unauthorized photos and videos of the event from leaking out.

Nevertheless, excerpts of the performance appeared on social networks shortly after the concert.

According to the British newspaper Guardian, Beyoncé performed 19 songs.

She sang her song "Brown Skin Girl" from the soundtrack to Disney's "The Lion King" with her 11-year-old daughter Blue Ivy.

The singer did not present songs from her current album.

"Renaissance" is an ode to the queer black ballroom scene.

In the United Arab Emirates, homosexuals and other members of the LGBTQ+ community can face the death penalty.

Because of this and other human rights violations, appearances by international stars in the country are controversial.

Despite the criticism, music greats continue to perform in the Emirates, including Blur, The Killers and Beyoncé's husband Jay-Z.

Beyoncé had already given a concert in Abu Dhabi in 2009.

Last Saturday, alongside Beyoncé, other celebrities appeared at “Atlantis The Royal”.

The DJ trio Swedish House Mafia played at the after party.

Model Kendall Jenner took the opportunity for another promotional event for her tequila brand "818".

The "Atlantis The Royal" houses, among other things, 44 suites with their own infinity pool and 231 luxury residences that have already been sold.

The world's largest jellyfish aquarium was also built into the $1.5 billion hotel complex.
