Over the course of two days, the Mohammed bin Rashid Library organized the "Days of Gibran Khalil Gibran" event, as part of its program of activities to enrich the Arabic language and preserve the Arab and cultural heritage.

The event began with a discussion of the book “The Broken Wings”, with the participation of Shatha Shalak, which shed light on the life of Gibran Khalil Gibran, a summary of the novel, its importance and literary value, in addition to the artistic characteristics of the novel: time, place, characters, events, style and narration, and the manifestations of sadness in the novel, along with Talking about social conflict and the status of women.

As for the second day's event, it included a dialogue session, entitled "The Image and the Word in the Life of Gibran Khalil Gibran", by Dr. Youssef Hatini, a lecturer at the United Arab Emirates University, with the participation of writer and film director Kazem Fayyad, and it was moderated by Dr. Badia Al-Hashemi.

During the session, Dr. Youssef Hatini spoke about the many faces of Gibran in literary and artistic production, and the multiplicity of Gibran's critical, artistic and philosophical references, in addition to Gibran's opinions, which are reflected in his various writings and their reflection on his paintings, and he also touched on his international fame.

While the director, Kazem Fayyad, highlighted the strength and solidity in Gibran's sayings, including: "You may cry and this is your right. You may grieve and this is your right, but do not be broken." He also touched on his love, in addition to presenting and discussing some of Gibran's sayings about the soul.

Dr. Youssef Hatini confirmed to Emirates Today that what distinguishes Gibran Khalil Gibran is the plurality of cultural references. He wrote novels, short stories, poetry, prose and philosophical works. He also drew and had experiences in sketches, portraits and watercolors.

He pointed out that Gibran was influenced by many international names, as well as Arabic, explaining that the point of view that indicates his influence only in the West, because of his upbringing there, is inaccurate, as he was greatly influenced by Arab names.

He stressed that Gibran wrote before the formation of the Arabic novel, and therefore technically his narration is not at the level of perfection, but he cannot be judged by the laws of modern narration, as he was breaking all the rules and enjoying freedom in his works.

For his part, writer and director Kazem Fayyad, who presents video clips on social media platforms, confirmed that he draws a lot from Gibran's writings, whether in terms of his own works, or even the small clips he publishes, explaining that this symposium bears great importance as it is organized at every time. The activities in it are commercial, and also because it supports those who work in the world of creativity, such as writing and art.

On the possibility of converting a book into a movie, Fayyad indicated that he chooses "Utopia" by Ahmed Khaled Tawfiq, because he has read the novel six times, and was impressed by its simplicity, depth and clarity, as well as because it talks about man, which makes it suitable for every place and time.
