An Iraqi fan tried to swim to the stadium to attend the "Gulf 25" final (video)

Iraqi websites and accounts on social media circulated a video clip during the past hours of an Iraqi fan who tried to enter the Palm Trunk Stadium to swim to attend the "Gulf 25" final match that was held in the city of Basra, southern Iraq yesterday.

The encouraging clip showed him swimming to enter the stadium, but his efforts were not crowned with success, as the security forces arrested him after he reached his destination.

This comes as news agencies and social media circulated scenes of Iraqi fans drowning in mud on their way to the Palm Trunk Stadium to follow the final match of the 25th Gulf Championship between Iraq and Oman.

The scenes revealed more than 150,000 spectators gathered in the vicinity of the stadium, hoping to enter the stands, at a time when the stadium was filled to capacity hours before the start of the confrontation.

It is noteworthy that the stampede of fans yesterday led to the death of a fan and many injuries.
