The Attalah Crucifix, a luxurious pendant made in the 1920s by the great British jeweler Garrard, had been worn on several occasions by Princess Diana.

It was sold at auction for 163,800 pounds (about 187,000 euros) during an auction on Wednesday in the British capital.

The amethyst cross, a variety of purple quartz, was purchased by a representative on behalf of Kim Kardashian, Sotheby's confirmed.

The pendant, notably worn by the princess at a charity gala in London in 1987, fetched more than double the estimated retail price.

The crucifix features diamonds for a total of 5.25 carats.

"The jewels worn by Diana are rarely available on the market"

"Jewelry owned or worn by Princess Diana is rarely available on the market, especially a piece like Attalah's crucifix, which is colorful, bold and distinctive," Kristian Spofforth of Sotheby's said ahead of the sale.

"To some extent, this unusual pendant is symbolic of the Princess' growing confidence in her clothing and jewelery choices at this particular time in her life," he added.

Last year, Kim Kardashian, 42, wore the dress that Marilyn Monroe wore when she sang Happy Birthday to President Kennedy in 1962 to the famous New York Metropolitan Museum gala. The Rupley's Museum, owner of the legendary dress, then had to deny accusations that Kim Kardashian had damaged it.
