Three years ago, a passenger ship carrying 60 passengers, including elementary school students on a school trip, sank off the coast of Kagawa Prefecture. I published an investigation report that it was caused by not noticing.

In November 2020, a passenger boat carrying 60 passengers, including 52 sixth-grade elementary school children, who were on a school excursion off the coast of Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture, ran aground in shallow water and sank, all of whom were nearby fishing boats. and a patrol boat of the Japan Coast Guard, and four people were injured.

Regarding this accident, the National Transportation Safety Board released an investigation report on the 19th.

According to this, the captain changed the route on a whim so that the children on the school excursion could see the places that the teacher had explained to them. It is said that the cause was that they did not notice the existence of rocks that appeared and disappeared depending on the ebb and flow of the tide.

He also pointed out that there was a problem with the safety management system, as the operating company did not equip the ship with a nautical chart showing lines to avoid obstacles.

The Japan Transport Safety Board cites measures to prevent recurrence, such as making a voyage plan after grasping the positions of obstacles that hinder navigation, and not changing the route unnecessarily on a sudden idea.
