The amorous groom did not know that a date with his bride a few days before the wedding would kill him, only to end up dead after being shot by a policeman who thought he was a thief.

Government authorities in Rumbek Central County, South Sudan, revealed that a groom was killed days before his wedding ceremony.

As a result of being shot by a policeman.

According to local authorities, the wedding ceremony was scheduled to take place on Wednesday, but he was killed in Mabwe district, on Sunday.

On Monday, Radio Tamazuj quoted the police investigator in the case, Martin Mashik, as saying that the police arrested the policeman who shot the groom by mistake at night, and that the investigation is underway with him.

He added that the murderer was named Lat Malong, and the dead man was named Lat Mading Monjangwen.

The police investigator explained that the crime occurred when the groom was on a date with his fiancee illegally, and when the family knew that someone was hiding among the cows, they thought they were thieves trying to steal the cows.

He continued, "The family informed the police, and when the policeman arrived, he shot and killed the groom, and the policeman was detained for interrogation."

For his part, civil activist Daniel Lat KUNA told Radio Tamazuj that the groom Lat paid the dowry to the girl's family, and their wedding was scheduled to take place on Wednesday this week.

And he continued, "The young man came to the girl's house at night on a date with his fiancée, and he was hiding among the cows with another person, but the girl's brother called the police, believing that a thief was trying to steal the cows, and when the policeman came, Lat tried to flee, but the policeman shot and killed him."

He added, "The policeman did not intend to kill him, so he turned himself in and the investigation is ongoing."
