For several months now, naturopaths have been targeted by many critics.

Several of their practices are pointed out, in particular by health professionals.

So much so that the appointment booking platform Doctolib had decided to suspend several profiles in August 2022. This time, the union of naturopathic professionals is asking for action from the government, relays

Le Parisien

.

It met at a convention on Tuesday.

According to the president of the Union of Naturopathic Professionals (SPN), there would be at least 1,500 "self-taught" among the 6,500 referenced naturopaths.

“I have them clearly on the radar,” she adds.

Better supervision requested

The president of the SPN assures that the profession has been asking the government for a better organization of these professions, since 2017. “Unfortunately, nothing has been done.

Neither the Ministry of Health nor that of Labor legislate on the file, ”she explains to the Parisian daily.

This would notably require better supervision, but also a training obligation.

The government plans to address this issue next March, during the first Assizes against sectarian aberrations.

In a press release published last Friday, the Secretary of State for Citizenship, Sonia Backès indicated that the objective was to give: "to the State the means to fight against these new forms of sectarian aberrations".

Decried personalities

Recently, it is the practices of two influential personalities in the field who have been decried.

A 58-year-old man, presenting himself as a naturopath, and his son were also indicted last Thursday in Indre-et-Loire for manslaughter.

They had organized prolonged fasts which would have led to the death of several people.
