takes stock for you with a short instruction manual that unfolds all the essential steps.

This is the start of applications for high school students.

When it comes to finding your way and choosing your studies, the decried Parcoursup post-baccalaureate admission platform can seem intimidating.

Terminales and students in reorientation have until March 9 inclusive to choose from among 21,000 training courses recognized by the State.

To fully understand how to do it,

20 Minutes

offers you a short instruction manual.

The introduction to registration

Before starting to choose their wishes, candidates must register on the platform.

To do this, you need your National Student Identifier (INE).

This sequence of numbers, which identifies students, is made up of 11 characters.

To find him, just get his hands on his college and high school transcripts, his student card or his school certificate.

The INE can also be found, of course, on the transcripts of the anticipated baccalaureate exams.

For those who have decided to pass the baccalaureate as an auditor, their Ocean number or their Cyclades identifier will be necessary.

Only applicants with no schooling and those who have studied abroad do not have an INE.

To obtain a registration number, they will have to send several personal details such as marital status, a summary of their schooling or their contact details.

After their definitive registration, they will obtain an INE number.

Sophie's picks

It's time for the most dreaded moment.

After final registration, candidates must select the establishments they wish to join.

They can make a maximum of 10 wishes (with the possibility of sub-wishes) but cannot rank them in order of preference.

Applications from future students will not be prioritized, so that "students do not self-censor and keep control throughout the admissions process," the Ministry of Higher Education said in a statement.

Among the many courses offered are bachelor's degrees, BTS, BUT (ex-DUT), preparatory classes or even bachelors (diplomas leading to a bac +3 and offered by a growing number of Grandes Ecoles).

For each wish, a few lines of motivation are expected.

Those who wish can add 10 additional wishes for apprenticeship training.

It is recommended, in order not to end up on the floor, to express a maximum of wishes and not to apply only for selective courses (preparatory classes, double licenses etc.).

The Ministry of National Education claims to have redesigned the site in order to provide "clearer information" and allow candidates to more easily identify the key points (public or private training, selective or not, apprenticeship or not, etc.) .

It also promises more “transparency”, with the creation of a new section entitled “Understanding the criteria for analyzing applications”.

The speed with which a candidate completes their choices does not influence the selection.

So don't panic: wishes can be filled in until March 9th.

The polishing of his file

Higher education courses are competitive.

In order to get out of the game, do not hesitate to complete your file.

The section “My activities and centers of interest” allows you to better put yourself forward.

It is not mandatory to complete this part of Parcoursup but it is equivalent to a CV and allows you to highlight your personal and professional experiences as well as your extracurricular skills.

So now is the time to make the most of all those years when you learned music theory, Mandarin or pottery.

"It's a real plus for your file: it allows you to stand out, to talk more about yourself and to highlight the qualities or experiences that are unique to you and which are not reflected in school report cards", notes the FAQ of Parcoursup.

You must complete the “Preference and other projects” section.

In the first part, on preferences, you can detail which courses are most important to you and why.

The second, "other projects", allows you to say if you have applied to other schools, outside the state platform.

This information will not be “transmitted to training (…) and will not be used to examine your wishes”, specifies Parcoursup.

The hunt for information

For the first time this year, the marks of the specialty tests – passed next March – will be taken into account by the platform, an additional source of stress for students who are still apprehensive of the selection generated by this tool.

To be reassured and fully understand Parcoursup, do not hesitate to get good information.

The Parcoursup FAQ can help you with this and the ministry has set up a toll-free number to answer candidates' questions: 0.800.400.070

To support young people and their families, the organization “Les lycéens!

"launched "PourtonSup", a platform "which aims to be the Parcoursup of the reform of the orientation in France, where the pupils, parents, teachers, can express wishes and remarks on Parcoursup and the subject more wide of orientation.

High school teachers can also help students find their way around.

So don't hesitate to ask.

The time for answers

From June 1st, the answers of the formations will fall over the water.

Applicants must respond to each proposal within a given time limit (no more than a few days).

This first phase of results ends on July 13.

From June 15 to September 12, an additional admission phase will take place, which will allow candidates to make up to 10 new wishes in the courses with available places.

At the end of September 2022, 160 baccalaureate holders out of 936,000 candidates were still without assignment at the end of the Parcoursup procedure, according to the Ministry of Education and that of Higher Education.

This is less than in 2021, where 239 graduates remained on the floor after the selection.
