Two 18-year-old twin sisters were hit by a regional train on the rails in Hamburg-Allermöhe.

One of the two died on the spot, as the federal police announced on Wednesday.

The seriously injured sister was taken to a hospital.

It was initially unclear why the two were on the tracks at the time of the accident on Tuesday evening.

"We are investigating in all directions," said a spokesman for the federal police.

It could be that, for example, a video should be shot for social networks.

The spokesman could not say more.

However, he reported that the twins were known to the federal and state police for "low-threshold crimes".

"There has also been unauthorized stay on the tracks." You have been in contact with the parents.

Exactly what incidents happened in the past is currently being determined.

The spokesman emphasized that it could also have been a tragic accident while crossing the tracks.

When asked, the spokesman explained that it was not a job that was known to be used illegally as an abbreviation.

A suicide attempt is also a possibility, he said.

"We are now looking for witnesses."

The regional train was heading towards Schwerin.

The accident happened about 250 meters from Allermöhe station.

According to initial findings, the locomotive is damaged.

"There were around 200 people on the train," said the spokesman for the federal police.

"The train was evacuated." A rail replacement service had been set up.

A crisis intervention team was on site.
