The use of the scooter in the city is not unanimous.

Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, no longer wants self-service in the capital, even if she will let the Parisians decide, as she told Le Parisien

this weekend

.

For his part, the Minister of Transport stressed on Tuesday on France 2 that he was “not for a ban” on these scooters.

Better still, he announced a “regulation plan” for electric scooters at the national level, relays France Bleu.

“I believe that pure and simple bans are simplistic solutions” indicated Clément Beaune on the set of

Télématin

Opposing the mayor of Paris, the minister specified that he believed “in regulation”.

"I am also working at the national level on a plan to regulate scooters," said the minister, adding that he was going to meet associations on the subject "in the coming weeks".

“The ban is simplistic!

The scooter poses problems, but it is also an ecological means of transport.

I am working on a regulatory plan at the national level.

Do not break an ecological mode of transport

For Clément Beaune, banning scooters, “it would break a mode of transport which can be ecological”, even if he does not deny “problems”.

Anne Hidalgo underlined that according to her, there is "lack of a Street Code to say how we behave, and how the municipal police punish those who do not respect the rules".

It is on April 2 that Parisians will be able to decide on the extension of self-service scooters in the capital.

At this stage, it is difficult to know what the regulatory plan will include.

Clément Beaune spoke out to strengthen "in any case the controls, the precautionary measures".

He talked about the age of scooter users, the use of the telephone, the safety obligations that could go through wearing a helmet - for the moment only advised.

A decree applied since 2019

Scooter users have obligations governed by a decree applied since October 2019. The minimum age is set at 12 years old, the speed of the machines is limited to 25 km/h, it is forbidden to drive on sidewalks except in local circumstances, and you can not ride more than one on the same machine.

In addition, the scooter must be equipped with a braking system, a horn, lights (front and rear) and rear and side reflectors.
