A woman in Saitama Prefecture, who lives with her same-sex partner on the family register, has submitted a petition to the prefecture requesting the introduction of a "partnership system" that recognizes same-sex couples as a relationship equivalent to marriage.

The person who visited the prefectural office was Takenomusume (35), who lives in Saitama Prefecture.

She handed over 6,395 online signatures to the person in charge asking Saitama Prefecture to introduce a partnership system.

The partnership system has been introduced by 40 cities and towns in Saitama Prefecture, but the prefecture has not.

On the family register, Takenomusume lives with her partner who is of the same sex, but even if she cannot legally become a married couple and her life is threatened, it is natural for a couple to ask about her medical condition. It means that they are concerned that they may not be recognized.

Takenomusume said, "I'm worried about things such as being transported to a hospital in a municipality that has not introduced the system, or moving. I want you to move on," she said.

Regarding the submission of the signature, Saitama Prefecture said, ``Since the partnership system has no legal effect, we would like to review the parts that need improvement in other ways.''
