The Cusco nature reserve in southeastern Peru was the scene of the discovery of a new species of lizard by a group of scientists, the national agency in charge of protected natural areas said on Monday.
"Otishi National Park reveals a new species of lizard to science," the institution said in a statement.
On its 20th anniversary, the Parque Nacional de Otishi revealed a new species of lagartija para la ciencia.

Discovered at more than 3,000 meters above sea level
The new species, named
Proctoporus titans
, was discovered in the Andean Puna, a high and vast plateau located at an altitude of 3,241 meters.
This lizard is characterized by a dark gray color and a tail that is longer than its body.
It has ridged dorsal and prefrontal scales.
Otishi National Park is a protected area in the region of Cusco and JunĂn that includes 305,973 hectares of high altitude forests.
In Peru, already, a new species of lizard,
Liolaemus warjantay
, had been discovered in September 2021, in the landscape reserve of the Cotahuasi sub-basin.
The animal had been found at 4,500 meters above sea level.
