Azusa Kanai (30), an unemployed defendant from Misato Town, Saitama Prefecture, and her two-month-old daughter, who was with her husband Hiroki (31) three years ago, had a fractured jaw and other problems that made it difficult for her to drink milk. He has been accused of abandoning a person in charge of protection to cause death for not taking him to the hospital.
At the lay judge trial that began at the Saitama District Court on the 16th, the defendant admitted to the indictment.
Subsequently, the prosecution said in its opening statement, ``Her husband refused to take her daughter to the hospital for fear of being suspected of abusing her, and the defendant agreed.''
In response to this, the lawyer said, ``She asked her husband to take her to the hospital, but she said, ``Is it okay for me to be arrested?'' and she was violent.'' .
Judgment is expected to be handed down on the 26th of this month.
Her husband, Yuki, was sentenced to 10 years in prison last October and is appealing.
