Ahead of Setsubun on the 3rd of next month, Shiogama Shrine in Shiogama City, Miyagi Prefecture is making “Fukumasu” to be used for sowing beans.

Shiogama Shrine plans to make a total of 4,300 “Fukumasu” of three different sizes for Setsubun, which will be given to those who receive prayers such as exorcism, and will also be sold on the shrine grounds.

Fukumasu-making started in the middle of last month and is now at its peak. Mr. Negi and Mr. Yudai Nagano carefully wrote the characters for "Fuku" and "Kotobuki" one by one with a brush to complete it.

Mr. Yudai Nagano said, ``I'm proceeding at a pace of about 100 pieces per hour with the hope that 'fortune will increase.' This year, I want the original calm life to return.' .

At Shiogama Shrine, the Setsubun Festival will be held on the 3rd and 5th of next month, with general visitors participating for the first time in three years.
