• Vinci Airports is the manager of seven French airports, including Lyon.

  • The year 2022 was marked by an 84% traffic peak compared to 2021.

  • However, airports have not yet returned to their pre-crisis level.

It is the world leader in airport concessions.

The Vinci group has just unveiled, via its subsidiary Vinci airports, the 2022 traffic report for the 65 airports it manages in 12 countries.

In France, seven platforms are concerned: Lyon (Saint-Exupéry and Bron), Nantes-Atlantique, Rennes-Bretagne, Toulon-Hyères, Grenoble Alpes-Isère, Chambéry and Clermont-Ferrand.

All observe a comparable trend.

After a collapse in air traffic in 2020 and, to a lesser degree, in 2021 due to the health crisis, passenger numbers started to rise again very significantly last year: +84% passengers transported on average compared to the previous year. he financial year 2021, “despite an uncertain economic and geopolitical context”, rejoices Vinci.

This is particularly the case for the airports of Lyon (8.5 million annual passengers, or +89%), Nantes (5.8 million, or +76%) and Rennes (0.6 million, or +63%).

Grenoble airport, admittedly smaller, has even seen its traffic multiplied by 14.

A delay that is not yet filled

Nevertheless, this spectacular growth still does not make it possible to catch up with the volume of attendance in 2019, just before the appearance of the Covid.

Far from it.

The passenger deficit remains around 25% for the average of the seven French airports operated by Vinci.

In Lyon, traffic is thus 27% lower than in 2019. In Nantes it is 20%, in Rennes 24%, in Toulon 16% and in Grenoble 37%.

The aircraft are however a little better filled since the movements of commercial aircraft are down 30% on average compared to 2019.

Before the crisis, Lyon-Saint-Exupéry was the fourth busiest airport in France, Nantes the 9th.

Outside France, the Vinci group is also the manager of London-Gatwick, Lisbon and Porto airports.
