The NGO Sea Shepherd revealed on Monday that it discovered, on Saturday, five corpses of dolphins "severely mutilated and disembowelled" on the beach of Grand Crohot, on the coast of the Bassin d'Arcachon (Gironde).

Another corpse was found on the Terrière beach in La Tranche sur mer (Vendée), on January 11.

“The sea never stops throwing up the corpses of dolphins, captured by fishing gear.

When the latter are mutilated, it is because they have either been consumed or the victims of an attempt to sink them to hide the evidence of capture, ”assures Lamya Essemlali, president of Sea Shepherd France, in a press release.

The NGO continues to demand, "on the basis of scientific recommendations", "closures of four months a year on areas at risk to non-selective fishing gear", and recalls that "the French State has been put on notice by the European Commission and sentenced before the administrative court for failing to comply with its regulatory obligations to protect dolphins.
