Today, Monday, Italy lost the famous star and glamorous brunette Gina Lollobrigida, at the age of 95.

Lollobrigida was an icon of post-war Italian cinema, once described as "the most beautiful woman in the world" and for decades embodied the Italian stereotype of Mediterranean beauty.

Lollobrigida performed opposite major Hollywood stars such as Humphrey Bogart, Rock Hudson, Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis and Frank Sinatra, and was one of the most famous cinema icons in the fifties and sixties of the last century.

She is best known for her roles in films such as "Beat the Devil", "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "Good Evening, Mrs. Campbell".

Lollobrigida became a photographer and sculptor after leaving the world of cinema.

Last September, her attempt to win a seat in the Italian parliament for a left-wing political party failed.
