On the 15th, a giant squid over 3 meters in length was found washed ashore on the coast of Iwami Town, Tottori Prefecture.

On the morning of the 15th, a passerby found a huge squid washed ashore on the coast of Iwami Town, Tottori Prefecture.

According to the "San'in Kaigan Geopark Sea and Earth Nature Museum", which was contacted and investigated, the giant squid was found to be severely damaged, such as the loss of the long arms called "tentacles" that catch prey, and washed ashore. It is believed that he was already dead when he did.

The remaining part was about 3 meters and 20 centimeters long.

Giant squid are said to live mainly in the Pacific Ocean at depths of 200 to 1,000 meters, and are rarely found on the coast of Tottori Prefecture.

A man in his 40s who lives near the coast said, ``When I opened the window of my house, people were swarming and a very large squid was hitting.I was surprised at how big it was.''

Yuzo Koyano, a curator of the San'in Kaigan Geopark Sea and Earth Nature Museum and an expert in marine life, said, ``For some reason, this squid has turned to the Sea of Japan side, and the water temperature is low and the sea is rough. Therefore, it is thought that it was weakened and washed ashore."
