Twenty-two departments in northwestern France were placed on orange alert for strong winds from Monday at midnight, said Sunday Météo-France, which anticipates the arrival of the depression "Gérard".

Sunday at 4 p.m. five of these departments - the four Breton departments and Loire-Atlantique - were already on orange alert, said the weather forecasting organization.

Snow orange vigilance in two departments

The latter also issues a snow orange vigilance for the departments of Puy-de-Dôme and Haute-Loire, also from midnight, with snowfall expected from 600/800 m.

According to Météo-France, the depression will “circulate along the Channel coasts overnight from Sunday to Monday and Monday morning”.

"The location and intensity of the strongest gusts have yet to be refined," adds the organization.

Gusts up to 110 to 120 km/h

The area concerned covers a large north-western quarter of the country: Brittany, Normandy, Pays-de-la-Loire, as well as the departments of Eure-et-Loir, Loir-et-Cher, Indre-et-Loire, Nièvre , Deux-Sèvres, Vienne, Charente-Maritime and Charente.

Gusts of up to 110 to 120 km / h are expected on the Atlantic and Channel coasts, with possible peaks of up to 140 km / h on the Cotentin, and 80 to 100 km / h in the interior, locally 110 km/h from Pays-de-la-Loire and Poitou-Charentes to the Center region.

The next Météo-France bulletin is scheduled for 10 p.m.
