The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is adjusting the deadline for tolls on expressways to extend the current system from 2065 by up to 50 years.

If the deadline is significantly extended this time for the purpose of securing the cost to deal with the aging expressway, it will be even more difficult to realize the toll free.

Expressways nationwide are supposed to repay debts such as construction costs with toll income, and the current system sets the toll period for expressways and the debt repayment period until 2065, after which it will be free. .

According to people involved, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is coordinating to extend the payment deadline and debt repayment period by up to 50 years to 2115.

Regarding the expressway toll period, a working group of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, made up of experts, decided to extend the toll period on the grounds that while the expressway is aging, the financial resources for maintenance and renewal have not been secured. I was asking for consideration.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism plans to submit a bill to revise the relevant laws to the ordinary session of the Diet, which will open on the 23rd of this month, based on coordination with related departments.

In 2014, the deadline for tolls on expressways was extended by 15 years to 2065, but if the deadline is significantly extended this time, it will be even more difficult to realize toll free.
