German model Tatiana Patitz, one of the most popular models in the 1980s and 1990s and appeared in a music video for singer George Michael, died in California yesterday, at the age of 56.

The famous German fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh, who died in 2019, was Tatiana Patitz's favorite photographer, as he had been photographing her since the eighties.

His foundation said on Twitter that it was "deeply saddened by the passing of Tatiana Patitz, Peter's longtime friend," praising Tatiana's "kindness, inner beauty, and amazing intelligence."

Anna Wintour, chairwoman of Vogue magazine, said that Tatiana Patitz, who was born in Germany, raised in Sweden and settled in California, "was a symbol of European elegance" like "Romy Schneider and Monica Vitti".

Patitz was part of an elite group known as the "original supermodels" in the 1980s and 1990s, along with Estelle Lefebauer, Karen Alexander, Rachel Williams, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington.

The six women appeared in a famous 1988 beach photo shoot by Peter Lindbergh for Vogue.

Tatiana Patitz, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford also appeared in the music video for the song "Freedom Ninety" by the famous British singer George Michael, who died in 2016.
