Inflation does not spare mobile phone operators.

As UFC-Que Choisir reveals, mobile and Internet plans should experience an increase in their prices at the start of 2023.

Faced with the explosion of operating costs linked in particular to the rise in the prices of energy and materials, most operators have decided to revise their prices upwards, not only for their new customers but also for old.

The price of the majority of the packages should thus increase and the customers will not be able to oppose it.

Quoted by UFC-Que Choisir, article L. 224-33 of the Consumer Code indicates that operators can increase their prices on condition that they inform customers "at least one month before" entry. effect of this amendment.

From then on, the persons concerned will have the choice to accept these conditions or to terminate free of charge.

Free, only exception?

However, these price changes are already underway.

Formulas previously accessible for less than 15 euros are now offered at 16 euros at Red by SFR and Bouygues Télécom or 17.99 euros at Sosh.

"If you want to limit the breakage, already think about checking your emails and your invoices, in order to know if you are concerned by these increases", recommends the consumer association which then advises to compare the different offers present on the market.

According to UFC-Que Choisir, Bouygues Télécom played on transparency by informing its customers by email of an increase ranging between 1 and 2 euros depending on the package.

Conversely, SFR sent neither email nor SMS, contenting itself with an insert in the January invoice.

From February, the operator should however practice increases of between 0.69 and 0.99 euro per month.

Orange should follow the movement by March or April, with increases of between 1 and 2 euros with the exception of the main subscription with social reduction and the Coup de Pouce offer.

Free, finally, would have decided not to increase its tariffs in spite of the increase in its operating costs.
