Residents of Mondragon (Vaucluse) expressed their reservations on Wednesday about the installation of a methanization plant in the town.

The composting company Alcyon has in fact joined forces with two local farmers to produce biogas using organic waste, explains France Bleu Vaucluse.

The project should see the light of day between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025.

During an information meeting organized by the leaders of the Méthalcyon project, local residents pointed out the nuisances that the plant would generate in the area.

They notably mentioned the 600 hectares of land that would be polluted by digestate, bad smells or the "thousands of tons of various waste that will reach our municipality by road".

An online petition has been created.

Those responsible for the methanation program have for their part tried to reassure the inhabitants by highlighting the ecological interest of the project.

Cindy Coq, director of Alcyon, said she was ready to continue the discussion but not to give up the installation of the factory in Mondragon.
