What could well make the radio audience curve rise again?

The radio audiences, at half mast, make the traditional ranking of French stations very dull.

The number of listeners, which stood at 40.84 million in 2021, fell to 39.35 million for the last two months of 2022, a drop of 1.5 million in one year.

71.1% of French men and women continued to listen to the radio every day compared to 74.5% the previous year.

Among all the French stations, it is once again France Inter which does well with 6.851 million daily listeners on average.

This is still a drop of 0.3 points, or 108,000 fewer followers over one year.

RTL is on the heels of France Inter with 10.3% of cumulative audience, a drop of 0.7 points.

The Big Heads

radio

is followed by another jewel of the public service since it is Franceinfo which takes third place on the podium and is the only radio in the top 3 to progress.

Europe 1 in decline

The public service has other reasons to rejoice since France Musique and France Culture also show increased audiences for the end of 2022. They gain 49,000 and 25,000 listeners respectively and stand at 1.8% and 3 .1% cumulative audience.

On the side of France Bleu, the dropout is 60,000 listeners lost in one year.

But this is nothing compared to the decline of Europe 1 with a loss of 269,000 additional listeners leaving the station with just over 2 million listeners for an audience share of 2.9%.

The platforms weigh down the musicals

Fourth radio station in France and first in music, NRJ, continues to fall, with a cumulative audience of 7.4%, or 0.7 points less in one year, which represents around 300,000 listeners.

This is his lowest level.

Like the other music stations, NRJ suffered from competition from the Spotify and Deezer platforms, as did Skyrock, whose audience fell from 6.2% to 5.6% in one year.
