Breeder of black pigs in the Gers, Noémie Calais has turned to organic to promote healthier agriculture.

By taking this decision, it offers a better living environment for its pigs… and higher quality meat for consumers.

"But you really have to be motivated, says the young woman, because my 'organic' pigs cost me ten times more to raise than intensive pink pigs".

“Very good quality meat sold at a very reasonable price”

Despite this high cost, Noémie manages to sell her products at reasonable prices.

To be able to make a profit, the breeder also takes care of everything: "I do the cutting, the charcuterie and I ensure the sale myself so as not to have to pay someone to do the trade.

It gives meat which is of very, very good quality and which is sold at a very, very reasonable price, much cheaper than in Paris and than in a butcher's shop”.

OUR “ORGANIC” FILE

For the breeder, it is necessary to stop intensive breeding to regain awareness of the value of animals: “in the 20th century, there was a process of disconnection from the animal, she notes.

So today, you find yourself faced with people who tell you "Oh dear, it's horrible to raise an animal and then kill it!".

Yes, but we really kill as little as possible, just enough.

And then we become aware of that death, and we dare to look it in the face”.
