Romania's public prosecutor's office is expanding the investigation into the case of British-American influencer Andrew Tate, who was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, money laundering and rape.

Further house searches were initiated on Thursday, according to the special unit responsible for organized crime at the public prosecutor's office, DIICOT, in Bucharest.

Real estate in the capital Bucharest and in the neighboring regions of Ilfov and Prahova would be searched.

According to media reports, the suspect's friends may have lived in the apartments, among other things.

The public prosecutor's office did not comment on this.

Andrew Tate, his brother Tristan Tate and two Romanian women have been in custody since the end of last year.

Last Tuesday, a court in Bucharest rejected an appeal by the four against the 30-day pre-trial detention.

The suspects are said to have forced young women to take part in commercially distributed sex videos, which media reports say were produced in a villa in the village of Voluntari, near Bucharest.

The prosecutor's office did not name the location of the alleged crime.

The Tate brothers have therefore been in the sights of Romanian investigators since April 2021.

Andrew Tate came to prominence in 2016 when he was kicked out of Britain's Big Brother show for leaking a video of him beating a woman with a belt.
