The President of the Senate (LR) Gérard Larcher ruled on Thursday that it would be "irresponsible" for the unions to "block the country" to oppose a pension reform that he considers "essential".

“We all have to show responsibility and I say it, after the health crisis, between the energy crisis, the crisis of the health system, there is of course a risk of crystallization but it is also necessary that the representative organizations employees are responsible”, estimated on RTL Gérard Larcher.

"Here is the time for politics and the time for the decision that will be taken by Parliament", he added, repeating that this reform was "indispensable" and that it marked "the victory of the continuity of 'a vision which is that of the senatorial majority (on the right)' which has been proposing it for years.

“The social dialogue did not work properly.

But it would be irresponsible to block the country, ”he then summed up on Twitter.

All the trade unions have called for a first day of strikes and demonstrations on January 19.

The CGT petroleum announced Thursday a strike on January 19, 26 and February 6.

The President of the Senate stressed that the "first concern" of LR, "is first of all the very small pensions, that no one has less than 1,200 euros".

With the president of LR Éric Ciotti and the leader of LR senators Bruno Retailleau, he will be received Thursday at Matignon by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne on this subject.
