The ranking of the 200 greatest singers of all time, men and women, established by the American magazine "Rolling Stone" continues to cause controversy, ten days after its publication.

The absence of Celine Dion or the place reserved for Michaël Jackson crystallize the criticisms.

Establishing a top 200 of the best singers of all time while sparing the subjectivities of each other seems like an impossible mission.

The American magazine

Rolling Stone

learned this the hard way at the start of 2023. Its ranking of the 200 greatest singers in history, men and women alike, has been the subject of sometimes harsh criticism since its publication on the 1st last January.

A discontent that does not swell.

Rolling Stone omitting the Celine Dion from its list of the greatest singers of all time is a crime against humanity.

Many Internet users are particularly surprised by the absence of Celine Dion, who had already been ejected from the Top 100 established in 2008. So much so that some fans of the Quebec singer gathered in front of the magazine's premises last Friday to shout to scandal.

Michaël Jackson's ranking (86th) also arouses the most indignant reactions.

His former manager John Branca did not fail to scratch an "absolutely strange" ranking in a message posted on Instagram this Wednesday where he is also surprised at the little regard given to Celine Dion.

"They snubbed Celine Dion, one of pop's greatest voices, and ranked Michael Jackson 86th - are you kidding the world? Both should be in the Top 10. No wonder I don't read 'Rolling' anymore Stone'", he asserts.

The French song reduced to the minimum portion

Within the borders of France, many regret the starving representation of French-speaking music and point to the absence of Georges Brassens, Edith Piaf, Barbara or even Johnny Hallyday, considered the greatest French rocker.

Only François Hardy (162nd) benefits from the honors of the magazine.

"Me too, I find it abnormal that Céline Dion does not appear there. Moreover, I would have liked to see Julio Iglesias appear there and that Barbara Streisand be better placed", confided the interested party in the columns of

Parisian

Certain inconsistencies in the ranking have just been raised for a few days, like the place granted to Ariana Grande (43rd) at the expense of Rihanna (68th), Ella Fitzgerald (45th) or Amy Winehouse (83rd).

The Australian magazine

New also notes

the absences of Madonna and Cher from this top 200.

On the other hand, the top 10 and in particular the podium occupied by Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Sam Cooke seem to satisfy the majority.

We find there in particular Stevie Wonder, Beyoncé, Ray Charles or Otis Redding.
