One day after the violent death of a 55-year-old teacher in Ibbenbüren in North Rhine-Westphalia, the police gave information about the possible background to the crime.

The 17-year-old suspect had "problems at school", said the Münster public prosecutor, the Steinfurt police and the Münster police on Wednesday.

It was a question of "verbal indiscipline", said senior public prosecutor Martin Botzenhardt of the FAZ.

The “recurring conflicts with teachers” had led to the school management of the vocational college pronouncing a one-day expulsion against the student on Tuesday morning.

At 2:51 p.m., the suspect is said to have visited his class teacher when she was alone in the classroom.

The youth is said to have "attacked and killed her with a knife".

He then dialed the emergency number for the police and was arrested by emergency services without resistance.

The suspect has not yet commented on the crime.

The motive is unclear, the investigation is still in its infancy, said Botzenhardt.

A homicide commission from the Münster police has taken over the investigation.

The victim is autopsied.

Federal Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger reacted with dismay to the deadly act of violence against a teacher in Ibbenbüren, Münsterland.

"The violent death of the teacher is stunned.

We must do everything we can to better protect teachers from violence," she told the news portal "t-online".

The FDP politician added that it is unacceptable that teachers are regularly insulted, threatened and attacked.
