Amelia Adamo has repeatedly invited the Swedish people under her skin during her successful career.

But despite the unabashed attitude to the audience, there are events that the 75-year-old has never talked about - until now.

- I think I have exposed myself over the years: myself, my private life, my poor family.

But then there was something else that the director managed to bring out.

It surprised me, says Amelia Adamo to SVT.

Suppressed secrets

In Jesper Henke's portrait series, the newspaper queen talks about growing up and events that made her who she is.

Not least the trauma of a stillborn child.

- All families have their secrets and this was mine and I had pretty well pushed it away.

I never spoke about this child, says Amelia Adamo.

Tough upbringing

Amelia Adamo was born in Rome, but moved to Sweden with her mother when she was nine years old.

During her upbringing, she was sent away several times, including to Norrland in the summers.

Being chosen early in life made her insides like "teflon".

- I got a lot of drive, because all this lies in the fact that you don't want to be there, you want to be somewhere else.

Then I discovered what my mother said: not even God can help you.

You help yourself, says Amelia Adamo.

Provocative pioneer

In the eighties, Amelia Adamo left the magazine world for Aftonbladet, but the move did not go down well with everyone.

In the evening newspaper, she was met with protests and was considered a symbol of superficiality and commercialism.

It went so far that employees signed protest lists against her employment, while reporters refused to carry out assignments she handed out.

But over time, Amelia Adamo succeeded in her goal: to illustrate the world of women.

- In journalism and politics, and as it has been everywhere, we are a kind of permanent second, and then you have to fight to get on the front page, says Amelia Adamo in SVT.

"Amelia Adamo - Smile and deliver" is shown in SVT Play.
