No non-fiction book has sold as fast on the day it came out as "Spare," Prince Harry's explosive memoirs.

This is what the British publisher Transworld, which belongs to the Random House Group, claims.

According to managing director Larry Finlay, with combined sales of 400,000 copies of the hardcover, the e-book and the author's self-read audiobook, the title has only one record rival, as far as he knows: the other " Harry”, namely Harry Potter, who, however, outshines the prince with 2.65 million copies sold in Great Britain alone on the day of publication of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”.

Finlay said Transworld always knew "Spare" would be a hit.

Media reports that the title had been discounted to half the excellent price of £28 before it was published gave the impression that the publisher was concerned about the circulation based on the extensive advance information.

Such promotions are not uncommon for bestsellers in Anglo-American books, where there are no fixed prices.

Experts estimate that the publisher would have to sell more than 1.7 million copies of the memoirs, published simultaneously in 16 countries around the world in electronic and physical formats, to recoup the costs.

The publisher is said to have signed a contract with the prince for four titles.

The value of the package, which is rumored to also include a memory book from his wife Meghan,

is estimated at between $20 million and $40 million.

American ghostwriter John Joseph "JR" Moehringer's fee is reportedly $1 million.

Measured by the rush to bookstores at the start of the Harry Potter title, which was launched at midnight with a lot of hype, the inflow was modest.

Few stores were open at midnight for Prince Harry's book, with some opening earlier on the day of publication.

Outside the Waterstones chain's flagship store in London, a single customer stood before an army of press photographers.

One store had the fun of putting "Spare" in its window alongside the track "How to Kill Your Family."

It was placed next to a story of treason in a south London bookshop.

One of the funniest memes circulating on the internet is a Bayeux Tapestry-style scene that tells the story of the Norman conquest of England in pictures.

It refers to the battle between William the Conqueror and Harald, King of England.

Prince Harry's official name is Henry, but his brother calls him Harold.

The meme, along with a Latin description, parodies Harry's description of how he is beaten up by his angry brother and falls on a dog's bowl, which then breaks.

Prince Harry's revelations also led to mostly critical comments in the British media on Wednesday.

In another television appearance, the prince also commented on the outrage at his confession that he killed 25 Taliban during his mission in Afghanistan.

He is accused of endangering not only himself but also others.

Voices have been raised from Afghanistan calling for the prince to be brought before a war tribunal.

Harry complained that the passage was taken out of context and twisted into a "dangerous lie".

He was concerned with the veterans with whom he has worked for almost two decades.

From this he learned that honesty and the ability to share experiences without shame are the most important things.

Concerned about Prince Harry's therapy addiction?

The anonymous "sources" in and around the royal family, whom the prince repeatedly chastisees in his book, which denounces his family's alleged complicity with the press, want to know that the Windsors have lost confidence in the Duke of Sussex and make sure you talk to him.

The Daily Telegraph, in a report on the alleged reaction from members of the royal family, refers to several such sources, who, among other things, claim that the King and Prince William are concerned about Harry's apparent dependence on his therapy.

While both father and brother recognize that Prince Harry needs professional help, it seems to fuel his anger and determination to blame others for his problems.

In his book, Harry writes that his brother expressed concern

Outwardly, the royal family is silent and proceeds according to the motto "business as usual".

However, there are unconfirmed reports about the first state visits by King Charles III.

and Queen Camilla.

As already suspected immediately after the death of Elizabeth II in September, the first state visit announced for March should apply to France.

A little later, a visit that was promised by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier after the Queen's funeral will take the couple to Germany.

Stays in Berlin and Hamburg are planned, and a station in eastern Germany should also be under discussion.

As heir to the throne, Charles had often been a guest in Germany, most recently on the day of national mourning in November 2020.
