After complaints from Jewish organizations, Hollywood star Mel Gibson has been removed from the Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The 67-year-old actor and producer is not allowed to accompany the Krewe of Endymion street parade, the city's most famous Mardi Gras parade with more than 3,000 floats, on February 18 as the "Grand Marshal" guest of honor because he has repeatedly participated in the past anti-Semitic tirades caused outrage.

"Although Mel Gibson is no longer attending following threats, the Anti-Defamation League, the New Orleans Jewish Alliance and the city's Rabbinical Council remain appalled that Endymion invited him as Grand Marshal in the first place," the Jewish organizations said .

The Oscar winner ("Braveheart") is not only notorious for anti-Semitic statements, but also repeatedly attracted attention with racist and misogynist statements.

Gibson caused a scandal in 2006 when he used anti-Semitic language at police officers while driving in Malibu.

After alleged beatings against his former partner Oksana Grigorieva, he repeatedly lost roles in the following years, but was invited back to the Golden Globes as a presenter in 2016.
