At a junior high school in Uchinada Town, Ishikawa Prefecture, the annual "Hyakunin Isshu" competition was held with approximately 500 students participating.

At the Uchinada Junior High School in Uchinada Town, every year at the beginning of the third semester, a “Hyakunin Isshu” competition is held so that students can become familiar with traditional Japanese culture.

This year, a total of about 500 first and second year students participated, and teams of three to four people were formed to compete.

The students, who lined up the karuta cards in front of them and adjusted their postures, listened attentively to the phrase read by the teacher, and responded quickly to pick up the cards.

As the number of cards decreased, the excitement grew even more, and the team members who were able to win were delighted with each other.

A second-year student who collected more than 90 cards by himself said happily, "I like karuta so much that I could call it a hobby, and I remembered it, so I was able to collect a lot."

Another student said, "My teammates worked hard to get it, so I did my best. It was fun."
