Do everything so that a 400-year-old oak survives in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés (Val-de-Marne).

This is the objective of the association Defense of gardens and natural spaces of Val-de-Marne (Dejaenat).

The collective launched a petition on Thursday and is fighting for the promoter, owner of the land on which the tree is planted, to abandon his real estate project, reports

Le Parisien

.

The latter had been stopped in the summer of 2022, when Dejaenat had denounced fraud on the building permit.

The document bore the signature of an architect who had been dead for two years.

Since then, justice is investigating but has not yet rendered its judgment.

21,000 signatures had already been collected as part of a first petition to save "the oldest oak in Ile-de-France".

In its new call, the association asks for the support of the municipal team.

The latter replied that she had no right to do so and that the purchase of all the properties containing remarkable trees would cost “150 million euros”.

The municipality also specified that it had taken all “the necessary and legal measures possible”.

Dejaenat now intends to file a complaint against the promoter.
