A cult movie
8 Mile
, directed by Curtis Hanson and starring Eminem, was released in 2002. The storyline was partly inspired by the life of the Detroit rapper, who stars opposite Kim Basinger, Mekhi Phifer and Brittany Murphy, among others.
In addition to commercial success both at the box office and in stores thanks to its soundtrack,

won the Oscar for best original song with

.
Following the announcement, 50 Cent shared an Instagram post from Billboard, captioning, "Yeah and you thought I was bluffing, I'm so serious man!"
