Q1: If a pregnant woman is infected, will the fetus in the womb be infected?

[Concurrent] Zou Liying, deputy director and chief physician of the First Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital

After the outbreak of the new crown, in the past few years, a lot of research has been done at home and abroad, that is, will the mother vertically transmit it to the baby?

So far, the current research evidence at home and abroad shows that the chance of this kind of vertical transmission from mother to baby to the baby is less than 2%, so overall, the vast majority of possibilities will not pass through this intrauterine situation, transmitted directly to the baby.

Q2: How to scientifically protect newborns?

[Concurrent] Zou Liying, deputy director and chief physician of the First Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital

If the baby is born negative and there is no problem, the mother must take precautions when touching the baby during the onset of the disease, just during the fever period, so as not to infect the baby as much as possible.

It is very important to wear a mask and do a good job of hand hygiene when in contact with your baby.

Then, except for the necessary contact, try not to have particularly close contact, and then wait for the peak period of infection to pass before contacting the baby, so as to reduce the possibility of the baby being infected.

Q3: Can newborns be given medication after infection?

Newborns are a very special group. After he (she) is born, he (she) has to face the process of adapting to the external environment, and his (her) body functions are not particularly mature, so the general newborn If the son is really infected with the new crown and he (she) really has a fever, the mother can do a simple physical cooling, and then monitor his (her) body temperature.

If after physical cooling, the temperature control is still not ideal, it is not recommended to take medicine at home, because this group is too special.

Therefore, if it is a baby within two months, or a newborn, it is necessary to go to the hospital for treatment and seek help from the doctor to guide the medication.

  Q4: Can infected mothers breastfeed?

Is it contagious?

[Concurrent] Zou Liying, deputy director and chief physician of the First Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital

After a pregnant mother is infected by various viruses (strains), does her milk contain the new coronavirus?

Now there is no clear evidence that the mother's milk contains the new crown virus, so a mother infected with the new crown can feed her baby with her milk.

However, during the feeding process, because the baby will be in close contact, the possibility of the baby's infection may increase. There is such a possibility, so it is generally recommended that the mother can feed the baby, but when feeding the baby, she must be a good individual protection, especially wearing a mask and doing good hand hygiene.

If you can't do it so tightly, it's okay to suck the milk out and give it to the baby.
