In Montrouge (Hauts-de-Seine), the Rabelais school group is getting a makeover.

Built 110 years ago, the establishment, which today welcomes 520 students, will be completely rehabilitated, with work which began this month of January, reports

.

Objective: "to make it a virtuous school" according to the mayor (UDI), Etienne Lengereau.

The total cost of this repair is estimated at 8.8 million euros.

Two canteens are to be renovated and a third is to be enlarged.

The leisure center will also be rehabilitated and enlarged, with the installation of two educational kitchens.

An energy efficient building

Outside, the playground has already started to be vegetated.

A space for urban agriculture must be set up.

More generally, the work will be carried out on the insulation, the roof and the acoustics, but also on the sanitary facilities.

The objective is also to make it a very energy-efficient building: heat pumps installed, new ventilation system, digital radiators, etc.

The work has barely begun, several questions have already been raised, in particular on noise, the condemnation of certain sanitary facilities or the distribution of extracurricular activities in other leisure centres.

For its part, the municipal opposition deplores a “lack of information”.

Completion is scheduled for August 2024.
