After Bamako, Faure Gnassingbé headed for Abidjan.

Mediator in the case of the 46 Ivorian soldiers, the Togolese president is working for their release and has "pleaded for a presidential pardon".

Detained in Mali since last July, the soldiers were sentenced last week to 20 years in prison.

They were found guilty of "assault and conspiracy against the government".

The current president of West African states (ECOWAS) also assured Wednesday that there would be no immediate sanctions against Mali despite their ultimatum, to let the Togolese mediation work.

In Benin, new, younger faces and women are appearing in politics.

Personalities from civil society are running for the legislative elections of January 8, 2023 to influence decision-making and also because they also denounce all these deputies who, once elected, disappear from their electoral constituency.

Small parties facilitate the entry of these newcomers into politics.
