Chinanews.com, Beijing, January 4th (Reporter Wang Shiyao) "20 years old is naive, 30 years old is grateful, 40 years old is cherished." This is Vanness Wu's summary of himself at different stages since his debut more than 20 years ago.

He said that time has taught him to cherish and be grateful. Although he is changing every year and every second, don't be afraid of changes, the most important thing is to enjoy the process.

Dancing is the first heart

travel inspiration

In 2001, with the broadcast of the idol drama "Meteor Garden", Vanness Wu, who played the role of "Mei Zuo", a member of the F4 group, quickly became popular. He was 23 years old that year.

In fact, becoming an actor is not in Vanness Wu's dream plan. If we turn back the time, as early as ten years ago, there was a 13-year-old boy who had dedicated his blood to dancing.

"Dancing was my original intention, and then making music came naturally." Because of this, in the second year after "Meteor Garden" swept across Asia, he did not choose to continue filming, but released his first solo album " The Body Can Sing".

Twenty years later, Vanness Wu's original aspirations are still there, and his love has not diminished. In the variety show "Brother Overcoming Thorns 2", he still maintains his enthusiasm for singing and dancing, and even boldly chose to present it in a solo dance on the stage of the song "Empty".

In 2022, Vanness Wu officially entered the international music scene and released his first English album "Take a Ride", followed by an international Chinese version.

Generally speaking, singers sing songs in different languages, even if it is the same song, it is easy to sing two feelings, but Vanness Wu chose to minimize this difference as much as possible.

"I actually don't want (people) to have a different feeling, which is why the Chinese version still has some English lyrics. I hope that the two versions contain the same soul and spirit."

There is no need to carefully design the theme, put aside complicated and messy thoughts, Vanness Wu wants to make the kind of music that makes people relaxed and comfortable, "put this album in the car and listen to it, and then you can drive anywhere, what I want to do It’s just this kind of catchy, simple and nice music.”

The core of Vanness Wu's music creation is very simple, that is, he hopes to convey joy, anger, sorrow and joy through music, arouse the emotions of the audience, and accompany them out of difficulties.

But if you want to make relaxed and simple music, you must first relax yourself. Vanness Wu said frankly that traveling often inspires creative inspiration.

When preparing for this "Take a Ride" album, he once ran across the ocean to Los Angeles, USA, and even rented a bed and breakfast near the sea.

"As soon as I open the door to the sea, that feeling is completely different from being in the recording studio. I write songs there, and when I rest, I open the door to look at the sea. It's like a vacation, so I feel happier and relaxed. It makes creation a little more natural."

accept imperfection

Dare to try and fail to have a chance to succeed

Singer, actor, dancer, producer, MV director... Vanness Wu skillfully switches between different identities, as if never afraid of those unknown challenges.

However, only he himself knows that he also had a period of fear of failure.

"I remember being asked to direct a music video for a sports brand once, and I called my friend and said I was afraid I would screw it up. But my friend said, 'You should do it anyway, it doesn't matter if you screw it up, because you have this Opportunities can be challenged and tried, why not?'”

After listening to his friend's persuasion, Vanness Wu suddenly became enlightened. He felt that what his friend said was right.

Even if he fails again and again, if he is willing to keep trying and challenging, he will definitely reach the level he wants one day.

"It's impossible for everything to be perfect, and it's ok all at once, so you have to try and fail before you can succeed."

Speaking of Vanness Wu, in addition to his beautiful work in "Meteor Garden", Ren Guangxi played by him in "Next Stop, Happiness" is also the role of "White Moonlight" in the minds of many audiences.

However, when Vanness Wu took over the drama at the beginning, he just filmed with the mood that he could announce the release of the new album together.

In 2008, Vanness Wu decided to regain his musical self, and at the same time his agency took over a TV drama job for him.

"I really didn't really want to act at the beginning, especially when I was preparing for the album, and I had many other plans." Vanness Wu revealed his feelings at the beginning of filming in an interview.

However, two weeks after filming started, Vanness Wu received a call asking him to attend a meeting with the TV station.

He went to the appointment with the feeling of "if they replace me now, I will be happy", this is because he was also very hard and tired from acting at that time, and his focus was still on the music, and he didn't put much thought into it In acting.

When he arrived at the meeting, when the director asked him if there was anything he could do to help, Vanness Wu revealed that he couldn't read Chinese at all.

And Ren Guangxi, who he plays, is a lawyer who needs to speak a lot of professional terms.

What moved Vanness Wu was that after that, director Chen Huiling began to record his lines specially for him, and it was not just a simple recording but also matched with the state of acting.

In this way, he gnawed down the hard bone of "lines", and his mentality changed 180 degrees, and he devoted 100% of his energy to this drama.

"After the performance, I think this is the best experience in my acting career." In the end, "The Next Stop Happiness" set a record for the runner-up in the history of Taiwanese idol dramas. .

Today, more than ten years later, the audience still miss "Ren Guangxi", Vanness Wu responded: "This is not the success of a single person. I think it is because of the whole team, the director team, the crew, all of us worked hard and worked hard together. The spirit of the show, let the audience feel this. We have encountered great challenges and have to break through many things. In the end, everyone has become like a family. In fact, this is where the soul lies."

enjoy the process

an ordinary man chasing his dream

Time is the wealth of change.

For more than 20 years since his debut, Vanness Wu believes that he is constantly changing, even changing every year and every second.

"20 years old is naive, 30 years old is grateful, 40 years old is cherished." He summed up himself in different periods in three words.

When he first debuted, because of the label of F4 idol artist, "Everyone thinks that you rely on your appearance, like a vase." Vanness Wu admitted that when he was young, he would be affected by these voices.

But then he figured it out, "Idols are what others say, as long as I know what my value is, what my mentality and my spirit are. Because I can't control what everyone thinks of me."

Nowadays, many artists who are idols are sometimes eager to tear off their labels, but Vanness Wu's way of handling it is - not to think about these things.

"I don't need to waste my energy on some unimportant things. There are already so many important things to understand in life. Why are you still entangled in some unnecessary things?"

When asked how to position himself, Vanness Wu thought for a moment and answered simply: "I am just an ordinary person, a person who pursues his dreams."

As a senior, his advice to the juniors in the entertainment industry is to do your homework, don't be lazy, and do what you have to do.

Don't be affected by negative things, let alone affect your mentality because of what the people next to you say, cherish and enjoy the process.
