This summer, Brittany, like all of France, was experiencing a scorching summer.

Dried out by extreme temperatures and a total lack of rain, the region was the scene of numerous fires.

Sometimes accidental, but also criminal.

This was the case in Morbihan, where several voluntary outbreaks of fire had been identified around Vannes in July.

According to

Ouest-France

, a man in his sixties was arrested in early December.

He is suspected of having started about fifteen fires this summer.

To get their hands on the arsonist, the police had a bit of luck.

In early December, they arrested a man who was trying to set fire to books found in a street library.

According to

Ouest-France

, the respondent had eleven lighters in his pockets.

It was by questioning the sexagenarian from Surzur that the investigators made the link with the fires of the summer.

Placed in police custody, the man admitted to being at the origin of several fire starts.

Released, he will be suspected of having carried out three new fires in December before being remanded in custody.

He recognized 16 fire starts.

The most spectacular had extended over more than eight hectares in July and had forced firefighters to evacuate 200 people residing in a campsite in Surzur.

The defendant will be tried on February 3.
