  • Elevation of this enzyme may be due to pancreatitis or intestinal obstruction.

The German Society of Gastroenterology reported that the “lipase enzyme” is an enzyme that breaks down fats, which are eaten with food in the small intestine, explaining that it is formed in the pancreas and released into the intestine with digestive juices.

She added that in the case of a healthy pancreas, a very small amount of enzyme enters the blood, noting that values of less than 190 units / liter are considered normal.

As for the values that are greater than that, they may be due to more than one cause, such as pancreatitis, intestinal obstruction, kidney failure, gallstone disease, gallbladder inflammation, metabolic disorders in diabetics (ketoacidosis), hepatitis, or bacterial bowel infections.

The high value of the "lipase enzyme" can be inferred by some symptoms, such as severe pain in the upper abdomen, which often occurs after eating, and may be accompanied by flatulence and diarrhea.

To counteract the high value of the enzyme lipase in the blood, a healthy, low-fat diet should be followed while abstaining from drinking alcohol.
