"He saw something terrible": a friend of Florent Pagny recounts the singer's breakup with Vanessa Paradis

He was "crazy about it".

For three years, Florent Pagny lived a beautiful love story with Vanessa Paradis.

The lovebirds got together in 1988, after meeting on a TV set.

Florent Pagny is 26 years old, Vanessa only 15 years old.

That year, the interpreter of "Knowing how to love" lived in a roommate in a house in Nogent-sur-Marne, as related by the documentary Florent Pagny: a free man, broadcast on January 1 on TF1.

This is where he will take the first step with the young Vanessa.

"One morning, I go down, I arrive in his room and there, I hallucinate, I see the head of Vanessa Paradis", says Jean-Pierre Loustau, a friend of Florent Pagny, who was then his roommate.

Jean-Pierre Loustau explains that he ended up painting the windows of the house "in blue" to protect the idyll of Florent Pagny and Vanessa Paradis, both hunted by paparazzi.

But this is not enough to reassure the lovers, who decide to settle in an apartment in Paris.

Their "band of friends" follows them.

“We are going to be playing billiards every evening, fooling around, making music, singing,” recalls Jean-Pierre Loustau.

Everything collapsed in 1991, when Vanessa Paradis decided to leave Florent Pagny to get in a relationship with rockstar Lenny Kravitz.

The break "hurts him", he "saw something terrible", assures Jean-Pierre Loustau, witness to the despair of Florent Pagny. 

"1992 was not a good year for me"

"It was not just a story that stopped. The most disturbing thing is to see that my friends had rather chosen to follow it than to stay with me. It was almost that which bothered me more. In addition , I arrived at a time when, economically, it was difficult and, around Vanessa, we explained to her that we should not stay. 1992 was not a good year for me, "commented Florent Pagny to the subject of this rupture in the documentary 

broadcast on France 3 in April 2018.

After leaving Florent Pagny, Vanessa Paradis no longer wanted to hear from him.

A radical decision that the singer had trouble understanding.

"I don't necessarily turn the pages. Here, in this case, it's rather her who turned it. It's been seventeen years since we've met, spoken, or whatever. But hey, I don't miss it, I have my life, everything is fine", assured the interpreter of
