The man who is said to have seriously injured the truck driver with a knife after the concrete mixer accident with a dead cyclist in Berlin is to be housed in a psychiatric ward.

According to a preliminary report, there are indications that the 48-year-old was not guilty of a serious mental illness, as the Berlin public prosecutor announced on Tuesday.

Accordingly, the authority is striving for a security procedure with the aim of further accommodation of the accused in a psychiatric hospital.

At the end of October 2022, the concrete mixer rolled over the 44-year-old cyclist on Bundesallee, who died a little later in a hospital.

Shortly after the accident, the suspect, a homeless man, is said to have stabbed the driver in the left breast with a folding knife at heart level.

The accident in the Wilmersdorf district had caused a nationwide stir and discussions.

A special vehicle from the fire brigade, which was supposed to help free the trapped woman, was stuck in a traffic jam after an action by the climate protest group Last Generation.

The public prosecutor's office in Berlin is investigating two activists for failing to provide assistance or for obstructing persons providing assistance.

The investigation is still ongoing, the prosecutor said in a statement.
