The "baby boomer generation" refers to people born during the "first baby boom" of the three years from 1947, and according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, there were more than 5.98 million people as of October the year before last.



Of these, more than 2.06 million people are expected to reach the age of 75 this year, and about 68% of the baby boom generation will become the latter-stage elderly.



In two years from now, in 2025, all members of the baby boomer generation will be 75 years old or older, and it is expected that 20% of Japan's population will be late-stage elderly.



On the other hand, the cost of nursing care is increasing year by year, and last year, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare held a meeting of experts to review the insurance premiums borne by the elderly aged 65 and over and partially raise the self-pay when receiving services. It was considered, but the conclusion was carried over due to the need to carefully consider the impact on the lives of the elderly.



The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will make a conclusion by the summer of this year for the revision of the system next year.
