Sunday, a large gathering of Iranians from France is planned from 1 p.m. in Lyon in memory of Mohammad Moradi, this Iranian student who committed suicide in the Rhône last Monday.

According to information from Lyon Mag, the march will start from Place des Terraux to go to Place Bellecour.

The 38-year-old man, who had lived in Lyon since 2019, had explained, in a video posted on social networks before killing himself, that he wanted to "show that the Iranians needed help" and that they were “very tired of this situation”.

Last Tuesday, dozens of people had already gathered to lay photos, candles and flowers on the Gallieni bridge, from which the student jumped.

The Lyon public prosecutor's office nevertheless "carried out an investigation into the causes of death, in order to verify the hypothesis of a suicide in view in particular of the messages posted by the person concerned on social networks announcing his intention".

For two months, Iran has been experiencing an unprecedented wave of protest, born of demands for women's rights after the death of Mahsa Amini, arrested for having worn the Islamic veil incorrectly, and violent repression during these demonstrations.
